L., Elaine Crittenden died peacefully of natural causes in Ojai, California. She was born in Waterloo, Iowa. She attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1948 with her husband Kenneth. In their early years they lived at the Douglass Pine Haven Ranch a short distance north of Colorado Springs. Today the area of the ranch sits on the present site of the Air Academy and the property is now known as Douglass Valley, named for her father Earl Douglass. She worked as an independent artist and artisan for most of the last four decades. She and her husband were active with the Masons and Shriners. She remained engaged with the Shriners Organization until she moved to Ojai, California in 2017. She is survived by her three children, Amy Crittenden, Leslie Shelton, and Gary Crittenden, and their families. A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at a date and place that has not been determined. She will be interred in the Columburium at the Chapel of Our Savior. Donations may be made in her name to the Humane Society Pikes Peak Region.
