Rays 5, Phillies 3

St. Petersburg, Fla.: Austin Meadows drove in his third run on a tiebreaking RBI infield single during a two-run eighth inning and the Tampa Bay Rays won for the 14th time in 15 games, over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Randy Arozarena had a leadoff infield single in the eighth and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Sam Coonrod (0-2). After Yandy Díaz was intentionally walked with one out, Meadows made it 4-3 with his hit off José Alvarado.

“Randy going first to third right there, his awareness was really huge,” Meadows said. “We were able to just put the ball in play.”

Brewers 4-6, Nationals 1-2

Washington: Luis Urías went 3 for 3 with two RBIS, including the tiebreaking double in a four-run sixth inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Washington Nationals to sweep a split doubleheader.

Leadoff batter Kolten Wong also had three hits and drove in two runs for the Brewers in the nightcap. Lorenzo Cain was 3 for 3 and scored twice.

Freddy Peralta pitched his first major league complete game in the opener, going all seven innings in a 4-1 victory. Milwaukee (27-25) is two games over .500 for the first time since May 13.

White Sox 7-3, Orioles 4-1

Chicago: Billy Hamilton hit a solo home run, Jose Abreu had a two-run homer, and Lance Lynn pitched five scoreless innings to help the Chicago White Sox complete a doubleheader sweep of the Baltimore Orioles.

In the opener, Jake Lamb and Yoán Moncada homered, with Abreu driving in three runs in a 7-4 win.

Chicago has won five of its last six games after getting swept by the New York Yankees last weekend.

Twins 6, Royals 5

Minneapolis: Rookie Trevor Larnach homered and Rob Refsnyder drove in two runs as the Minnesota Twins hung on to beat the Kansas City Royals.

Nelson Cruz had an RBI double in the first inning that drove in Josh Donaldson for a notable run — the 2 millionth scored in Major League Baseball history.

J.A. Happ (3-2) won for the first time in five starts, finishing five innings to set up the Twins for their seventh victory in the last nine games despite another late bullpen lapse.

Cubs 10, Reds 2

Chicago: Cubs infielder David Bote left the game against Cincinnati on Saturday after hurting his left shoulder on a slide.

Bote grabbed his shoulder after the play at second base in the fourth inning. He was helped off and replaced by Patrick Wisdom at third before the Reds batted in the top of the fifth.

The team said Bote is undergoing further evaluation.

Angels 4, Athletics 0

Oakland, Calif.: Shohei Ohtani came to the Coliseum on Saturday morning after pitching a night earlier and declared himself ready to get back into the batter’s box as designated hitter.

It even left his manager a little awestruck.

The two-way star from Japan hit a key two-run single, Alex Cobb struck out eight over seven scoreless innings to win consecutive starts for the first time this season, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Oakland Athletics .

Red Sox 3, Marlins 1

Boston: Playing their first game in a rejuvenated Fenway Park since the state dropped limits on crowds during the coronavirus pandemic, Nathan Eovaldi went 5 1/3 scoreless innings and the Boston Red Sox beat the Miami Marlins..

Bobby Dalbec, Kevin Plawecki and Hunter Renfroe each had an RBI single for Boston, which won for the seventh time in nine games and posted its ninth straight home victory over the Marlins.

There was a lot more buzz in the fabled park, with the fans roaring after the national anthem and cheering loudly when Eovaldi fired a fastball past the swing of Magnerius Sierra, the game’s first batter.

Tigers 6, Yankees 1

Detroit: Jonathan Schoop homered and Spencer Turnbull pitched well into the sixth inning as the Detroit Tigers beat the New York Yankees.

Turnbull (4-2) allowed one run on three hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out six to improve to 3-0 with a 1.33 ERA in his past four starts, including a no-hitter against the Seattle Mariners.

“I felt great other than one bad inning,” Turnbull said. “Once I got through that, I was able to get locked in again.”

Padres 11, Astros 8, 12

Houston: Fernando Tatis Jr. launched a monstrous, three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to tie it, Wil Myers hit a three-run drive in the 12th and the San Diego Padres beat the Houston Astros 11-8.

A day after the Padres erupted for seven runs in the 11th inning, they played their fourth straight extra-inning game, going 3-1 in that span.

“I’ve never been apart of four consecutive extra-inning games,” San Diego manager Jayce Tingler said. “They’ve gone more than just the 10th. Our guys are some type of resilient. They’re built for this.” Mets 13, Braves 2

New York: Francisco Lindor, James Mccann and Jonathan Villar hit three of the Mets’ season-high five homers, Taijuan Walker pitched five scoreless innings in his return from the injured list and New York routed Atlanta as word spread that Braves star Marcell Ozuna had been arrested.

Ozuna was charged with aggravated assault strangulation and misdemeanor battery/family violence, according to Fulton County Jail records in Georgia. The 30-year-old outfielder was booked Saturday by the Sandy Springs Police Department, and an apparent photo of his arrest was posted by a user on Twitter.

Ozuna, who led the NL with 18 homers last year, was placed on the injured list Friday by the Braves with two dislocated fingers on his left hand. He re-signed with Atlanta in February on a $65 million, four-year deal.

Giants 11, Dodgers 6

Los Angeles: Donovan Solano and Evan Longoria homered, Logan Webb pitched five sharp innings and the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Giants have won consecutive games at Dodger Stadium, scoring a combined 19 runs, after losing the first four in the season series.

Mike Yastrzemski hit two doubles and Wilmer Flores had three of the Giants’ 16 hits after being reinstated from the injured list.

Twins’ Donaldson scores MLB’S 2 millionth run

Minneapolis: Josh Donaldson of the Minnesota Twins scored the 2 millionth run in Major League Baseball history on Saturday, trotting home in the first inning on a ground-rule double by Nelson Cruz against Kansas City.

The Elias Sports Bureau confirmed that Donaldson hit the milestone mark when he touched the plate. The former AL MVP has scored 685 of those runs.

“I don’t know what to think. I’ll be honest with you,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “But I know J.D. only does big things, so I’m not surprised to hear that he scored the 2 millionth run of all time.”
