MARCIA LEE NOLAN

January 30, 1945 October 10, 2021

Marcia was born January 30, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of Katherine Kenkel. Upon the passing of Katherine, she was adopted by Katherine’s sister Virginia and her husband Ernie Eder in 1950. She graduated from Finneytown High School in 1963. Marcia and her family moved to Woodland Park, Colorado in 1973 where she lived until 1985, when she moved to Colorado Springs.

She leaves behind her husband Gerald “Jerry”, of Colorado Springs; son, Doug Hessong of Colorado Springs and grandchildren, Cassie and Ethan Hessong; brother, Ernie (Ellen) Eder of Dandridge, Tennessee; sister, Sharon Eder of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; nephews, Aaron and Caleb Eder, both of Tennessee; and close cousins, Carol (closer to being a sister) (Bert) Cannon, Lynn (Dave) Revecky, and Frank Edward Frick, all of Cincinnati, Ohio.

While living in Woodland Park, Marcia was primarily a homemaker and also helped assist with the family service station business. Marcia loved Colorado and at different times took advantages of its many outdoor opportunities. She spent a lot of time skiing, downhill and cross country, camping, hiking, and even hiking a 14-er. Just being in the mountains, whether viewing wildflowers or Aspen leaf peeping made it a great day for her. She also covered a large number of the four wheel drive roads in Colorado. In addition to outdoor activities Marcia enjoyed travel, both in Europe and in the United States. Several of these trips were focused on our great National Park system. Marcia and Jerry visited a large majority of our National Parks. From Maine, to Virginia and the Carolinas, and Alaska to Texas. Without a doubt, her favorite was a trip to Yellowstone with Doug, Ethan and Jerry. She especially enjoyed the fact that Ethan relieved her of all planning duties and planned the entire trip himself.

Marcia had several careers, for many years she was a Territorial Manager for Gibson Greeting Card Company in Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado and then a local real estate agent. In her last job, she combined one of her hobbies with her profession, when she managed a stained glass store. Marcia was not only an excellent stained glass maker, but was a dedicated nature photographer. She took numerous beautiful scenic and wildlife photographs.

Aside from her family, the focus of her and Jerry’s social life was the Blazer Ski Club where she had been a member for almost 35 years.

During this time she and Jerry led numerous ski trips to Snowmass, Aspen, Wolf Creek and Crested Butte (her favorite destination in Colorado year round). She also planned numerous parties and other social events

A viewing for Marcia will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Swanlaw Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903, followed by a celebration of life service at 11:00 AM.

Marcia will be laid to rest at a later date in Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington,va 22203.
