The Colorado Springs Gazette final

ROUNDUP

Flames 5, Devils 3

Newark, N.J.: The Calgary Flames keep winning on the road, and Andrew Mangiapane’s scoring is a major reason.

Mangiapane had two of Calgary’s four goals in the first period, and the Flames extended their winning streak to four games with a victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night.

Milan Lucic, Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk also scored for the Flames. Calgary backup goalie Dan Vladar made 27 saves.

“We scored on some early opportunities and I think that was the difference in the game,’’ said Mangiapane, who also scored twice in Monday night’s 5-1 over the New York Rangers. “We had a good start. We knew we needed to come out strong and get our legs underneath us.”

Pavel Zacha had two goals and Dawson Mercer also scored for the Devils.

Nico Daws allowed three goals on seven shots in his second career start before being lifted in favor of Scott Wedgewood, who finished with 20 saves.

“We just lost wall battles. our puck battles, our 50-50 battles weren’t good,’’ Devils coach Lindy Ruff said. “A lot of our pain was self-inflicted. They got to pucks quicker. They deserved to get the lead.”

Lightning 5, Penguins 1

Pittsburgh: The Tampa Bay Lightning finally grabbed a lead and regained some of their swagger in the process.

Ondrej Palat and Ryan Mcdonagh scored 10 seconds apart in the second period and the Lightning picked up their first regulation victory of the season with a win over Pittsburgh.

A night after a loss to Buffalo that included giving up three goals in the third period, the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions had their most complete performance of the young season.

Predators 3, Sharks 1

Nashville, Tenn.: Juuse Saros made 28 saves to lead the Nashville Predators to a win over the San Jose Sharks.

Matt Duchene, Filip Forsberg and Mikael Granlund scored for Nashville, winners of two straight.

Timo Meier scored and James Reimer made 23 saves for the Sharks, which have lost two in a row following their season-opening four-game winning streak.

Duchene scored the game’s first goal a little more than a minute into the opening period on a Nashville power play.

Just 19 seconds after former Predator Nick Bonino was sent to the box for tripping, Roman Josi passed the puck to Duchene just outside the blue line. Duchene skated into the high slot, made a quick toe-drag move to elude the stick of San Jose defenseman Brent Burns and then sent a wrist shot past Reimer.
