Chargers waive kicker Tristan Vizcaino, sign veteran Dustin Hopkins

The Chargers touted Tristan Vizcaino’s leg strength and potential when he made the team this season. Six games later, they released him. The rookie was waived Tuesday in favor of veteran Dustin Hopkins, who was let go by Washington last week.

Vizcaino missed five extra points over the past four games. He was 6 for 7 on field-goal tries for the season.

NFL not planning to issue report on Washington Football Team

The NFL is not going to issue a report on its 10-month investigation into allegations the Washington Football Team engaged in harassment and abuse because of its promise to protect the identities of those who testified, Commissioner Roger Goodell said on Tuesday.

Speaking around 7 p.m. after the first day of the NFL meetings for the 32 owners, Goodell said the league wanted to protect the roughly 150 former employees who spoke to outside counsel Beth Wilkinson, who conducted the NFL investigation.

He said the NFL did release a summary of the investigation and that Washington owner Daniel Snyder has not been allowed to handle any of the day-to-day operations of the franchise since July.

“I do think he has been held accountable and the organization has been held accountable,” Goodell said.

Eagles defense making it easy for opposing QBS

Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s unit is making the wrong kind of history.

As Gannon spoke to reporters Tuesday, gusts of damp fall wind swept through the open-sided tent where the Eagles hold news conferences.

The weather was a reminder that the 2021 season is no longer young, and any grace period that might have been granted to a coach teaching players a new system has passed.

In a 33-22 loss at Las Vegas, the Eagles allowed Raiders quarterback Derek Carr to complete 31 of 34 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns. Carr’s 91.2% completion rate was the second highest by a QB throwing at least 30 passes in NFL history.

And, it’s been a common theme against Gannon’s defense. Quarterbacks are completing passes at a 74.4% rate against the Eagles this season. If that holds up, it will break the NFL record of 72.7% set by the Detroit Lions in 2016. Denver Broncos host the Eagles on Nov. 14.

Ravens designate DE Derek Wolfe for return

The Baltimore Ravens have designated defensive end Derek Wolfe for return, allowing him to resume practicing.

The Ravens announced the move Tuesday. Wolfe has been on injured reserve since Oct. 2 because of back problems.

Wolfe was a regular starter for eight seasons with the Denver Broncos, then started eight of the 14 games he appeared in last season for the Ravens. He hasn’t played yet this season. The Ravens are off this weekend after a 41-17 loss to Cincinnati on Sunday dropped them into a tie for first place in the AFC North with the Bengals.
