IN 1922

Won’t you buy a poppy for a hero? Today is “Poppy Day” in Colorado Springs and silken blossoms will be sold on the streets of the downtown district by scores of pretty girls to be worn on Memorial Day in commemoration of those who served and died in the Great War.

IN 1947

Billy Mudd, winner of the recent YMCA table tennis tournament, and city table tennis championship, added further to his laurels when he became the Junior Open table tennis champion of Colorado after romping undefeated through his matches at the Denver Athletic Club. A student at St. Mary’s school, Mudd has been playing table tennis for about a year and a half. He resides at 221 N. Cascade Ave.

IN 1972

Some wonderfully evocative photographs were featured recently by the Pikes Peak Camera Club. Exploring lights and shadows, subjects ranging from the quality of shimmering light on water to the starkly eerie somnambulance of shadows sprawled across the palisade of sidewalk vendors. Featured in this week’s Leisuretime are “Evening Silhouette” by George White, “Falls on the Merced River” by S. S. Swanger and “Sidewalk Vendors” by Don Watson.
