RACHEL ZENDEJAS

December 20, 1935 May 23, 2022

Our loving mother, Rachel, left us to join our Lord on Monday, May 23, 2022 and be with her beloved husband, Bob, of more than 65 years.

Mom was born on December 20,1935 to Maria (Mary) and Lorenzo Pineda; she was the youngest of 8 brothers and sisters. Born during the depression, she joined her brothers and sisters at a very young age to work in her father’s shoe store. Sadly, she lost her parents by her early teens so her siblings helped raise her.

After her high school graduation, she joined her sister, Ruth, and worked at Fort Bliss. Her sister introduced her to a kind and handsome soldier who two years later married her. It was the beginning of a life-long love affair.. Mom gave birth to five children but also had an open door policy to friends in need, at-risk children and soldiers. This is how our brother, Charles, joined our family.

She was a firm believer in giving time, talent and treasures. She volunteered at church, our schools and other community groups. The one group dearest to her heart that she volunteered for over 20 years is The Assistance League Thrift Store. They clothe children, assist victims of domestic violence and help teens who transition out of foster care.

While raising her family, she took college courses at night and also worked at various jobs such as Tonka

Toys, the Base Exchange and Mahan’s Jewelry Store at the Broadmoor. Upon becoming the manager at Mahan’s, she was inspired to study for her certificate in jewelry from the Gemological Institute of America and start her own business.

Mother is survived by children, Anna (Greg), Robert (Tammy), Linda (Billy), Terri (Bruce) and Jim (Chana) as well as her grandchildren, Kristina, Sarah, Rachel, Sam, Caitlin, Sophie, Matthew, Isabelle, Gabriella, David and Scotty. A funeral mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Friday, May 23, 2022 at 11:00am. Reception to immediately follow will be at the Colorado Springs Country Club, 3333 Templeton Gap Road.

In lieu of flowers. donations to St. judes Hospital or The Popes Mission (mission.org) are appreciated.
