IN 1922

A radical change in vaccination regulations for public schools has been announced by the municipal health department, according to Dr. Omer R. Gillett, city health office. All school children are now required to present their vaccination cards at the time of registration, which will take place Tuesday, Sept. 5.

IN 1947

Through the generosity of Everette Marshall of La Junta and Rocky Ford, the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo will have its first annual cantaloupe day. On Thursday, Aug. 28, which is Arkansas Valley day, Marshall will give away 10,000 cantaloupes. As one of the country’s cantaloupe kings, the former world’s heavyweight wrestling champion, said that the famous Rocky Ford cantaloupe should have special recognition at the state fair.

IN 1972

Miss Enid Justin, the only woman bootmaker in existence, attended performances of the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo this week. She started work in her father’s shop in Nocona, Texas, when she was 12, and designed her first pair of boots a few years later. When her father died, her brothers took the H.J. Justin factory to Fort Worth, and she organized the Nocona Boot Co.
