Five decades after mankind’s giant leap, Parade celebrated the anniversary of the risky hight of Apollo 11, shared behind-the-scenes trivia and marveled at the miracle of it all.

On the moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took a phone call from President Richard Nixon, who said, “This certainly has to be the most historic phone call ever made from the White House.” One fifth of the world’s population watched the space walk on TV or listened to it on the radio.
