South Academy Boulevard was closed between Interstate 25 and Drennan Road Thursday night after an officer fell off a bridge during an arrest attempt.

According to reporting from Gazette news partner KKTV, Lisa Schneider with the city of Fountain reported multiple agencies were involved in a pursuit of someone suspected of committing multiple felony crimes about 7:45 p.m. The pursuit ended near South Academy and Hartford Street, east of Interstate 25.

KKTV is reporting that a suspect got out of the vehicle, and a Fountain police officer fell from a bridge while attempting to apprehend them, according to Schneider, who estimated the fall was about 30 feet.

In the latest update, Schneider said the officer was in “critical condition” and was taken by helicopter to the hospital. Schneider said three suspects were taken into custody.

Gazette news partner KKTV initially reported that the officer suffered injuries after an incident that stemmed from a carjacking and chase, according to Colorado State Patrol.
