TCM Morning & Afternoon Movies: It’s Friday, I’m in Love

TCM, Beginning at 4 a.m.

While there are still 11 days until Valentine’s Day, it’s never too early to celebrate romance, and Turner Classic Movies does just that with this morning and afternoon of films about love and its various aspects, from the dramatic and humorous to the forbidden and unrequited. The featured titles are 1940’s Married and in Love (pictured), a drama starring Alan Marshal, Patric Knowles, Barbara Read and Helen Vinson; Jamboree (1957), a rock ‘n’ roll film with a story following a singing couple played by Paul Carr and Freda Holloway that is secondary to the movie’s roster of cameo appearances from icons of the early rock era, including Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Connie Francis, Frankie Avalon, Dick Clark and many others; Mr. Lucky (1943), a romantic drama led by Cary Grant and Laraine Day; A Summer Place (1959), the famous tear-jerker starring Sandra Dee, Troy Donahue, Richard Egan and Dorothy Mcguire, which draws much of its emotion from Max Steiner’s iconic instrumental theme; A Midsummer Night’s Dream (1935), the Best Picture Oscar-nominated adaptation of Shakespeare’s fantasy/comedy, led by James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, Olivia de Havilland and Dick Powell; Athena (1954), a romantic musical comedy starring Jane Powell, Edmund Purdom, Debbie Reynolds and Vic Damone; and the 1962 drama Rome Adventure, starring Donahue, Angie Dickinson and Suzanne Pleshette.
