A look back

A cornfield in the winter with stalks in snow and bare trees behind in February 1957 in Venetucci Farm in El Paso County. A flock of crows rises from the field. A wire fence is in the foreground. In the 1930s, the farm was bought by the family of the late Nick and Bambi Venetucci and now is overseen by two local philanthropic foundations, according to an April 21, 2021, Gazette article. The farm was famous for giving away pumpkins to kids. Unforeseen contamination of the Widefield aquifer, which was saturated with perfluorinated compounds originating from firefighting foam used at Peterson Air Force Base, forced the farm to stop selling edible goods in 2016.
