Braves 8, Diamondbacks 5

Phoenix: Eddie Rosario hit a grand slam off Miguel Castro with two outs in the ninth, and Atlanta Braves rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arizona led 5-4 heading into the ninth after Ketel Marte hit a two-run homer and rookie Corbin Carroll connected for a solo shot.

Castro (3-2) opened the inning by walking Michael Harris II, and Ronald Acuña Jr. lined a single before stealing second. Castro then struck out Matt Olson and intentionally walked Austin Riley to load the bases.

Cubs 7, Padres 1

San Diego: Marcus Stroman pitched six strong innings to win his fourth consecutive start and rookie Miguel Amaya went 3 for 3 with his first major league home run as Chicago defeated San Diego.

Yan Gomes and Trey Mancini hit back-to-back homers off Ryan Weathers (1-4), and Dansby Swanson added a two-run double later in the second inning.

Amaya’s two-run drive off reliever Drew Carlton made it 7-0 in the third.

Stroman (6-4) allowed just an unearned run and four hits, striking out six.

Yankees 4, Dodgers 1

Los Angeles: Anthony Rizzo scored the go-ahead run in the eighth on a grounder and New York edged Los Angeles in what was a pitchers dual for six innings between Domingo Germán and Bobby Miller.

Anthony Volpe provided some insurance with a two-run homer in the ninth for the Yankees, who were without AL MVP Aaron Judge, after he injured his right foot crashing into the bullpen door while making a catch on Saturday.

J.D. Martinez homered for the Dodgers, who dropped the final two games in the series.

Orioles 8, Giants 3

San Francisco: Josh Lester drove in two runs with his first major league hit during his season debut, and Tyler Wells won for the first time in his last four starts as Baltimore beat San Francisco.

James Mccann reached base three times for Baltimore, including his third home run. Adley Rutschman added two hits and Ryan Mountcastle drew a bases-loaded walk to help the Orioles to their 13th series victory of the season. A year ago, Baltimore didn’t win its 13th series until July 13.

Pirates 2, Cardinals 1

Pittsburgh: Rich Hill kept the Cardinals off balance for 6 2/3 innings, expertly weaving in and out of trouble with a series of curveballs offset by a fastball that can touch 90 mph. The result was a Pittsburgh win over St. Louis.

Hill walked three,struck out six and a homer in the seventh.

Rays 6, Red Sox 2

Boston: Yandy Díaz’s sixth-inning RBI single turned into a two-run Little League homer, and major league-best Tampa Bay beat the sloppy Boston Red Sox.

Josh Lowe, Luke Raley and Díaz each had two hits for the Rays (42-19), who are 6-1 against AL East rival Boston this season.

Phillies 11, Nationals 3

Washington: Kyle Schwarber hit a pair of three run homers, Drew Ellis hit his first two home runs of the season, and Philadelphia defeated Washington to take the rubber game of the series.

J.T. Realmuto went deep for the second day in a row for the Phillies, who finished a 4-6 road trip. Nick Castellanos had three hits.

Schwarber got his first homer, in the sixth, and his second in the ninth.

Brewers 5, Reds 1

Cincinnati: Adrian Houser pitched seven strong innings and Andruw Monasterio hit his first career homer, leading Milwaukee Brewers over the Cincinnati Reds.

Victor Caratini also went deep as Milwaukee won for the fourth time in five games. The Brewers also clinched their first road series win since April 19.

Blue Jays 6, Mets 4

New York: Brandon Belt broke a seventh-inning tie with a two-run homer and Toronto got the win for a three-game sweep.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. also went deep for the Blue Jays, who blew a four-run lead but quickly recovered. Toronto has won four straight and six of seven.

Marlins 7, Athletics 5

Miami: Luis Arraez hit a tiebreaking infield single in the eighth inning and the Miami Marlins beat the Oakland Athletics to complete a three-game sweep.

Joey Wendle doubled against A’s reliever Austin Pruitt to lead off the inning, then advanced on Jacob Stallings’ single. Stallings took second on right-fielder Ramon Laureano’s throw to the plate as Wendle remained at third.

Angels 2, Astros 1

Houston: Shohei Ohtani hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning, and the Los Angeles Angels avoided a four-game series sweep.

Ohtani was hitless before clubbing a pitch from Phil Maton (0-1) off the wall in right field, driving in Gio Urshela for a 2-1 lead. The clutch swing gave Ohtani 41 RBIS on the season.

Luis Rengifo hit his third homer for Los Angeles, which stopped a threegame slide.

White Sox 6, Tigers 2

Chicago: Jake Burger’s game-ending grand slam handed Liam Hendriks his first win since returning from cancer, and Chicago beat Detroit for a threegame series sweep.

Hendriks (1-0) worked a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out two. It was the third big league appearance for the All-star closer since he missed the start of the season after he was diagnosed with stage 4 non-hodgkin lymphoma.

Hendriks’ win coincided with National Cancer Survivors Day in the United States.

Guardians 2, Twins 1

Minneapolis: Triston Mckenzie tossed five scoreless innings in his injury-delayed season debut, and Josh Naylor delivered a breakthrough RBI double in the seventh to give Cleveland a win over Minnesota to split the four-game series.

Mckenzie had 10 strikeouts and threw 79 pitches after missing more than two months with a muscle strain in his shoulder that popped up at the end of spring training.

Rangers 12, Mariners 3

Arlington, Texas: Marcus Semien extended MLB’S longest hitting streak this season to 23 games, Jonah Heim homered and drove in five runs, and Texas’ offense kept rolling with a sweep.

Corey Seager also went deep as the Rangers won consecutive games by a combined score of 28-9 after taking the series opener 2-0.

The AL West leaders scored at least 10 runs for a major league-leading 16th time in 58 games and have won five straight series, their longest streak in five years.
