BRIAN ZABLE
August 1, 1965 September 29, 2023
Dr. Brian Zable passed away peacefully in his home on September 29th after a fifteen-year battle with cancer. He was 58 years old. Brian was born in Binghamton, New York and grew up in that region of upstate New York. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in engineering at Cornell University and then completed medical school at Hahnemann University. Brian moved to the University of Minnesota for his internal medicine residency, and it was at Minnesota where he met his wife, Dr. Mary Olsovsky. He began his medical career in Baltimore, specializing in geriatrics at The Johns Hopkins University. He then moved to Colorado Springs where he established a thriving geriatrics practice. Brian was voted best geriatrics physician in Colorado Springs for many years. He was beloved by his patients, who lauded his kindness, sense of humor, medical expertise, and willingness to listen. For two years he served as managing partner of the family practice of which he was a part. Even after his cancer diagnosis, Brian continued to practice medicine as his health allowed.
Brian was devoted to his daughters, wife, and extended family. He was also a wonderful friend, and maintained decades-long friendships from childhood, college, medical school, and his community in Colorado Springs. Everyone who knew Brian knew his wry and self-deprecating sense of humor, generosity, open mindedness, and curiosity about the world. He loved being out in nature, hiking and camping with his daughters and friends. He also loved music, gardening, and books. Brian was a sports fan, dedicated to the NY Giants football, and an avid fantasy football participant. During his long illness, Brian demonstrated extraordinary courage; he endured numerous rounds of treatments with debilitating side effects and complications, and through it all maintained his humor, good spirit, and determination to live as fully as he could.
He is survived by his two daughters, Rachel Zable and Claire Zable, his wife Mary Olsovsky, his parents Barbara and Jack Zable, his sister, Ilyse Zable (Rachel Kyte), his brother Robert Zable (Anna), nephew Daniel Kyte-zable, and his nieces Nia Kyte-zable, Hanna Zable and Sara Zable. He will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at Temple Shalom in Colorado Springs on October 3rd at 10:00 am. Brian’s preferred charities are the American Jewish World Service and the National Resources Defense Council. Donations can also be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
