Dr. Gene Moore passed away aged 89, on June 20, 2023, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO, where he had practiced Pathology for almost 40 years, serving as department head and chief medical officer. He led an exemplary life and was deeply respected by all who knew him.

Gene House Moore was born on the 4th of November 1933 in Martin, Tennessee. The youngest of four boys, was raised by his parents Horace Neuland Moore (a lumber yard owner) and Gladys Ann House Moore. (English teacher). He received his medical degree in 1956 from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where he met the woman who would become his wife for 60

years, June Susong. After medical school, Dr. Moore completed his internship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a flight surgeon. In 1959 he returned to the University of Colorado for his residence in Pathology, where he became Chief Resident and Instructor. Dr. Moore was board certified in clinical, anatomical, and radioisotopic pathology, and was a fellow of the College of American Pathology and the International Academy of Pathology.

He cared passionately about his profession and worked tirelessly to cure illness and relieve suffering. He taught, researched, and published numerous studies to further medical diagnosis and treatments. After retiring from practice, Dr. Moore spent countless hours on the telephone helping friends and family understand their lab results and diagnoses and advocating for their care.

Gene was an excellent athlete. He was a high school all-state quarterback in Tennessee, but turned down a full ride scholarship to play football at Vanderbilt because they did not offer a pre-med program. He enjoyed tennis, golf, handball, and squash. Gene loved the Colorado outdoors, and was a beautiful skier and a devoted fisherman. One of his favorite activities was taking his grandson Ian Beckman fishing at Wigwam Fishing Club. In addition, for many years he was active in local wine groups as well as the Wine and Food International and was a Chevalier de Tastevin.

Dr. Moore was preceded in death by his wife June, his parents, and his four brothers. He is survived by his two children, G. Kurt Moore, Ph.D of Denver, CO, and J. Kristen Moore Beckman of Greenwich, CT, their spouses Denise and Richard, their children, and many nieces and nephews.

Gene will be remembered as a devoted husband, revered father, valued friend, respected professional, and esteemed community member. He was unfailingly kind to children and animals, looked out for his neighbors, and is terribly missed.
