The Colorado Springs Gazette final

ROUNDUP

Orioles 5, Nationals 4

Baltimore: Ryan Mckenna scored on a sharp grounder by Ramon Urías for the winning run as the Baltimore Orioles completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a victory on Sunday.

Phillies 2, Braves 1

Philadelphia: Aaron Nola came within one out of a shutout, and the Philadelphia Phillies edged the Atlanta Braves to earn a split of their four-game series.

Nola allowed four hits and struck out nine in 82/3 innings. Jean Segura hit a solo homer in the fourth and made a key defensive stop in the seventh that helped strand an Atlanta runner at third. Philadelphia infielder Ronald Torreyes homered in the eighth, and that proved critical when Atlanta’s Austin Riley went deep with two outs in the ninth to chase Nola.

Cardinals 10, Reds 6

Cincinnati: Harrison Bader and Dylan Carlson homered during a seven-run burst in the fourth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds.

Mets 5, Blue Jays 4

New York: Rich Hill gave the New York Mets the reliable start they were seeking. Pete Alonso and Jeff Mcneil took care of the rest.

Alonso homered again, Mcneil broke a tie with a pinch-hit, tworun double and the Mets beat the Toronto Blue Jays in Hill’s successful debut.

Marlins 9, Padres 3

Miami: The Padres totaled five hits against seven pitchers. They had one runner thrown out at the plate, and another erased between second and third to short-circuit a rally. A leisurely throw to first by Manny Machado proved costly, and Yu Darvish endured another rough outing.

Not the way San Diego wanted to end a 10-game trip, especially not against a last-place team. But a 9-3 loss forced the Padres to settle for a split of their four-game series in Miami.

Red Sox 5, Yankees 4

Boston: Domingo Germán was simply dominating the Boston Red Sox. Never more so than in the seventh inning, when the Yankees right-hander struck out stars J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts and rookie Jarren Duran.

As Germán walked off the mound then with a no-hitter intact and a solid lead, there was no way to envision what was on deck.

Indians 3, Rays 2

Cleveland: The Indians showed the Rays they can mount a comeback, too.

Bobby Bradley’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning capped Cleveland’s late rally and sent the Indians to

a win on Sunday, snapping their losing streak against Tampa Bay at 11 games.

On the verge of being swept and dropping under .500 for the first time since May 1, the Indians, who managed just one run in seven innings against Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough, rallied in the eighth off reliever Matt Wisler (3-4)

Angels 6, Twins 2

Minneapolis: Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 35th home run

and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins.

Royals 6, Tigers 1

Kansas City, Mo.: Jorge Soler hit two home runs, Salvador Perez added a three-run blast and Daniel Lynch pitched eight scoreless innings for his first major league win as the Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers.

The Royals grabbed a 4-0 first-inning lead as Perez hit his team-leading 23rd home run and

Soler followed with his 11th for the Royals, who have won fifth straight games.

Astros 3, Rangers 1

Houston: Zack Greinke threw six solid innings, Abraham Toro homered and the Houston Astros sent Texas to its 12th straight loss, beating the Rangers.

Cubs 5, Diamondbacks 1

Chicago: Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and David Bote homered, Trevor Williams pitched effectively into the seventh inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Giants 6, Pirates 1

San Francisco: Lamonte Wade

Jr. homered twice and the San Francisco Giants avoided a threegame sweep, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Mariners 4, Athletics 3

Seattle: Catcher Tom Murphy turned toward the stands behind home plate, pumped his fist and seemed to try to scream in celebration above the din of noise emanating from the cheers of the home crowd.

The Seattle Mariners made it clear this weekend that for now they intend to be part of the American League wild-card conversation.

“I think it’s been preached this rebuild so much, but I mean we’re right there on the edge of this thing,” Seattle’s Kyle Seager said. “Certainly you would like to have them make moves and get the team as good as we possibly can. I mean, I’d like to make a run out of it.”

White Sox 3, Brewers 1

Milwaukee: Lance Lynn allowed one run over six innings and hit a two-run single to lift Chicago to a victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on as the White Sox avoided a sweep in this series between division leaders.

With wife at Olympics, Reed claimed by Rays from Dodgers

St. Petersburg, Fla.: Jake Reed switched teams while his wife was with the U.S. softball team at the Olympics.

The 28-year-old reliever was claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday and optioned to Triple-a Durham.

AP source: Pirates trading All-star 2B Frazier to Padres

The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to trade All-star second baseman Adam Frazier to the playoff-contending San Diego Padres for three minor leaguers, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the deal had not been announced. The trade is pending physicals.
