MLS ROUNDUP
Messi misses another match
Atlanta: Inter Miami star Lionel Messi did not dress for Saturday’s match at Atlanta United, the second match he missed this week.
Atlanta is among five MLS stadiums with artificial turf surfaces. Messi and defender Jordi Alba did not dress for Atlanta United’s 5-2 win. Inter Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino said the decision to hold out Messi was “because he has muscular fatigue and it was prudent to leave him.”
Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank said he believes the FieldTurf at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a surface viewed by some players as more taxing on their bodies than grass, was not the reason Messi remained in Miami.
Vancouver 2, Toronto 1
Toronto: Vancouver defender Tristan Blackmon and forward Brian White each scored in the second half to help the Whitecaps beat Toronto.
Vancouver (11-8-8) has secured
10 of a possible 12 points after four games of a seven-game road trip. Toronto (4-14-10) was looking for its first back-to-back league wins since August 2022.
Orlando 4, Columbus 3
Orlando, Fla.: Ramiro Enrique scored a go-ahead goal in second-half stoppage time and Orlando rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the Columbus Crew for its seventh win in the last nine matches.

Fire 0, Montreal 0
Montreal: Chris Brady made four saves, including several stops late, for his career-high seventh shutout of the season and the Chicago Fire played CF Montreal to a scoreless draw.
The draw was Jonathan Sirois’ 11th clean sheet, breaking the Montreal record set by Evan Bush in the 2018 season. Chicago (8-11-9) remains 10th in the Eastern Conference standings, two points below the playoff line.
The Fire went unbeaten in both regular-season matches against Montreal, previously beating the Canadian club 3-0 on July 12.
Sounders 1, FC Dallas 1
Frisco, Texas: Alex Roldan scored in the second half to rally the Seattle Sounders to a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday night.

NYCFC 0, N.Y. Red Bulls 0
Matt Freese saved three shots in his fifth start of the season and New York City FC played the New York Red Bulls to a scoreless draw.
NYCFC (6-10-13) has won just once in its last nine regular-season home matches. New York (7-12-9) has managed just one win in its last nine visits to Yankee Stadium. The Red Bulls have six regular-season games remaining.
Charlotte 0, D.C. 0
