Marlins 11, Braves 5

Miami: Jake Burger hit a goahead two-run homer and Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a grand slam in the eighth as Miami pulled away.

Luis Arraez and Yuli Gurriel also went deep for the Marlins, who became the first NL East team to win a series against the division champions.

Matt Olson hit his MLB-leading 52nd homer and passed Andruw Jones as Atlanta’s single-season homer leader. Jones hit 51 in 2005.

Orioles 8, Rays 0

Baltimore: Gunnar Henderson homered and drove in three runs, Grayson Rodriguez pitched eight outstanding innings and Baltimore secured a potentially crucial tiebreaker in the AL East.

After losing the first two of this four-game set, the Orioles (92-56) moved a game ahead of Tampa Bay (92-58) and clinched the season series. That means if the teams finish tied for first in the division, Baltimore would win.

Rodriguez (6-4) has shined since back from the minors in mid-July.

Royals 10, Astros 8

Kansas City, Mo.: Kyle Isbel’s bunt single highlighted a three-run seventh as Kansas City won.

Reliever Hector Neris (6-3) flipped head over heels trying to glove Isbel’s squeeze bunt RBI hit in the seventh inning. Breaking a 6-all tie, the Royals added two more runs.

Blue Jays 4, Red Sox 3

Toronto: Whit Merrifield hit a game-winning single in the 13th and Toronto rallied.

Merrifield’s infield single drove in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from third for Toronto’s fifth win in its last at-bat.

Chad Green (3-0) pitched one inning for the win.

Guardians 2, Rangers 1

Cleveland; Steven Kwan drove in Bo Naylor following Tyler Freeman’s tying single with two outs in the eighth, rallying Cleveland.

The Rangers, who remain in the second AL wild-card position, dropped their second straight in the series. They entered the day a half-game behind first-place.

White Sox 7, Twins 6

Chicago: Eloy Jiménez and Gavin Sheets homered during Chicago’s five-run first, and the White Sox beat Pablo López and Minnesota.

Touki Toussaint struck out eight in five effective innings as lowly Chicago stopped a four-game slide. Tim Anderson had three hits and started a key double play in the seventh.

Yankees 6, Pirates 3

Pittsburgh: Oswaldo Cabrera visited the Roberto Clemente Museum on Friday and picked up one of the heavy bats used by the Hall of Famer who starred for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1955-72,

Cabrera hit his first big league home run since June 3.

Reds 3, Mets 2

New York: Christian Encarnacion-Strand hit a two-run homer and Cincinnati earned another important victory in the race for the last National League wild card.

Derek Law retired Mets slugger Pete Alonso on a game-ending groundout.

Padres 5, Athletics 2

Oakland, Calif.: Juan Soto hit a sacrifice fly and drew a bases-loaded walk, Matt Waldron struck out five pitching into the sixth for his first major league victory, and the San Diego Padres secured a series win over the Oakland Athletics.

Manager Bob Melvin is leaning toward letting Soto play all 162 games.

Fernando Tatis Jr., who on Friday became the first Padres player ever with multiple seasons with 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases, doubled and scored a run.

Brewers 9, Nationals 5

Milwaukee: Mark Canha hit a tiebreaking grand slam off Kyle Finnegan with two outs in the eighth and the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers beat the Washington Nationals.

The Brewers bounced back after blowing a four-run lead and won for the 13th time in their last 15 home games. Taylor also homered for Milwaukee. Luis García hit a solo shot for Washington.

Phillies 6, Cardinals 1

St. Louis: Kyle Schwarber hit his 44th homer, sparking Philadelphia to a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Schwarber’s three-run homer came on a 2-2 pitch in the fifth inning, extending the Phillies’ lead to 5-1. The homer snapped a 0-for-16 slump for Schwarber, who sports a .197 season average. He hiked his RBIs total to 97.

Philadelphia leads the NL wild card race, beginning the night with a 2 1/2-game lead over the Chicago Cubs, who were second.

Tigers 5, Angels 4

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Angels pushed three runs across in the ninth inning to force extra innings. Then in the top of the 10th, Detroit scored the game winner and held the Angels scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.

Longtime star Miguel Cabrera had two hits in five at bats and drove in two runs for the Tigers. Cabrera will end his Hall of Fame career at the end of this season.
